Privacy policy of the optidome companion extension
Last updated on October 28, 2026.
In short
The extension sends no data, neither to optidome nor to anyone else. It makes no network call to any server. What it keeps stays on your computer, in the storage space Chrome sets aside for each extension, and you can erase it at any time.
What the extension reads
The extension only works on four sites: chatgpt.com (and chat.openai.com), claude.ai, gemini.google.com and chat.mistral.ai. On these sites, it reads:
- the text you type in the message box, after a pause in typing, to spot sensitive data (IBAN, card number, French social security number, email addresses, access key) or a request for sources;
- the text you paste in that box, to know whether you already pasted the same text in the conversation;
- your messages and the assistant's answers as they go by, to estimate their size, recognise the model and the reasoning setting you chose, and spot a "thanks" sent on its own or a follow-up such as "shorter".
This text is never saved. The extension reads it, turns it into numbers, then forgets it. To recognise a text pasted twice, it keeps a fingerprint of that text (a calculation from which the text cannot be recovered) in memory, for as long as the page stays open.
What the extension keeps
On your computer only, the extension keeps:
- daily totals, by assistant and by model: number of messages, estimated size of what you wrote and of what the assistant answered;
- for each conversation, its identifier at the assistant, its estimated size, its number of messages and the last day it was used. A conversation without activity for 90 days is removed from this list;
- for each day, the identifiers of the conversations used that day, which serve to count your conversations of the month. They stay until you erase them;
- the number of tips followed during the month, the tips you set aside, and your settings.
A conversation's identifier serves two purposes: following its length from one message to the next, and reopening it from the extension so you can prepare a summary.
What the extension does not do
- It sends no data to optidome or to any third party.
- It contains no audience measurement tool and no advertising.
- It neither sells nor transfers any data.
- It never sends or changes your message unless you click.
- It acts on no site other than the four listed above.
The use of information received by the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Permissions requested
The extension asks Chrome for a single permission, local storage, to keep the totals described above. It also asks for access to the four sites listed, without which it could neither show its tips nor count your exchanges.
Test mode
The extension's settings offer a test mode, off by default, used to check how it works on a site. When on, it also keeps on your computer the shape of the latest exchanges: the names of fields and settings, without the text of messages. It sends nothing. The report it produces only leaves your computer if you copy it yourself. Turning the test mode off erases what it kept.
Erasing your data
The "Clear everything" button in the settings deletes everything the extension kept. Uninstalling the extension does the same. The "Export" button gives you a copy of your totals, in a file you save wherever you want.
